14. IRO SAR DOGS WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP

The IRO SAR dogs World Championship is the most important and most prestigious competition in the society of SAR dogs, in which the most elite handler and dog teams from the whole world participate. The competition brings together around 150 best dogs in the world that compete for the title of World Champion in the search for victims in rubbles, in open area and trail searching.
The World Championship also promotes the unity of all the IRO members as well as their mutual cooperation in the goal of successful search missions. Apart from that the competition also serves for the comparison of training methods and their qualities, and by this exchange of experiences contributes to the greater success in search and rescue missions. A great number of teams that will compete in the World Championship have helped in many search and rescue missions in countries devastated by strong earthquakes; therefore their arrival to Croatia is of immense honor.
It will be the first time that the IRO SAR Dogs World Championship will be held in Croatia, in the town of Samobor, in the period from 30th of June - 6th of July 2008.
CRDA has been granted this great honor and trust on the IRO Board meeting held on the 20th of June 2006. It is truly an honor to organize such a magnificent humanitarian event and at the same time promote the town of Samobor and Croatia in the activities of safeguarding and rescuing humans.
Around 300 persons active in search and rescue will be staying in Samobor during this event.

Considering this fact the Championship holds a significant tourist impact on the town, region and the entire state.
